Week ending Sunday 26th April – Fluctuations of the Mind

Well, my first week of online classes have come and gone, I can’t say that it has run smoothly – as you should see what goes on in the background, especially for 1 person, and that is Ben.  He’ll have less hair when all this Lockdown is over 🙂

Things will run smoothly in everything, with my online classes and with life and there again things may not run so smoothly, with my online classes and with life!

Yes, I beat myself up over these things, if thing are not as they should be.  I have to take a step back, give myself a talking to, rectify the situation and try to carry on the best that I can.

With the current situation as it is across the world we are all going through many, many emotions.

1.2 Yoga is the cessation (of identifying with) the fluctuations (arising within) consciousness.

Simply put, it’s mind chatter that draws our attention away from the present moment.  When you are in Yoga class, focusing on your breath while feeling the movement of your body and suddenly your mind wanders to something else, your eyes wander to another direction, or you hear a sound – your mind is fluctuating- you are no longer in the present moment.  These are the modifications of the mind that yoga is trying to quiet.

The goal of yoga is simple but not always easy.  It’s natural to get caught up in our thoughts because we do it almost all the time.  But with practice, over time, quieting these fluctuations starts to feel natural.

The meaning of ‘yoga’ is to unify or join together the mind, body and spirit.

Practice:  As various disturbing thoughts, emotions, or sensations arise, ask the question:  “Could I let go?”  Cultivate detachment towards them.

The mind running, you bring it back; it’s running, you bring it back.

You are taming a monkey.  Once it’s tamed, it will just listen to you.

You will be able to say, ‘sit there quietly,’ and it will.

So, my lesson this week will be to try no to be so hard on myself and maybe you could try this too.  We are all doing the best we can in the current situation.

Namaste folks and I’ll Virtually see you ALL next week!
